May 2013 - October 2015

Project Summary

Study of the electrochemical metallization of a substrate functionalized with aliphatic and aromatic dithiols represents the goal of the present project. In order to point out the substrate role, our investigations will be carried out on both metallic and semiconductor substrate. The first part of the project is centered on the study of the effects exerted by the self assembled monolayers (SAMs) dithiols on the electrochemical, chemical and structural properties of the substrate. The second part of the project is focused on the effects of the metallization of the dithiol self assembled monolayers formed on both metallic and semiconductor substrate exerted on their electrochemical, chemical and structural properties. The fabrication and characterization of such complex architectures requires an interdisciplinary approach by combining electrochemical techniques (CV, EIS) with surface - sensitive methods such as XPS and AFM.

Keywords:

SAMs, electrochemical metallization, dithiols

Scientific goals

Main objective of the present project is the study of the influence of the substrate nature (semiconductor and metal) on the formation of the self assembled monolayers (SAMs) and the metallization process in order to obtain new complex architectures such as Metal/SAMs/substrate. These complex architectures are of great interest in the field of biosensors and designing new electronic devices. Certain attention will be given to:
