Laboratory of coordination chemistry (Dr. Luminita Patron) is involved in modern aspects of coordination chemistry: design of mono- and polynuclear coordination compounds (synthesis, structural chemistry, and spectral and magnetic properties).
An important direction of research is the study of correlation between the structure of the coordination compound and the biological activity; biomolecular modeling and design.
The research team succeeded to be one of pioneer in the development of the new strategies for obtaining the materials with predicting properties.
So, the coordination polynuclear compounds are used as potential precursors for ultrafine and nanomaterials:
• magnetic oxides(spinel ferrites, orthoferites, hexagonal ferrites , perovskites and ion garnets);
• high Tc superconductors;
• miscellaneous oxides such as spinel manganites, perovskit manganites, and cobaltites;
• mixed and complex sulfides, metal-s clusters

The present studies are focused on:
1. generation of tailor made multicomponent materials starting from polynuclear compounds with specific chemical and/or the physical properties at optimum conditions.
2. elaboration of new synthesis strategies with emphasis of those synthesis which lead to particles sizes in the range 10-150Å;
3. characterization of manufactured materials, especially from magnetic, optical and catalytic perspective;
4. a detailed study concerning the relationship synthesis method-properties of final product;
5. a comparative study advantages/disadvantages of the used method with another unconventional synthesis methods
6. the characterization of the proton transfer in solution and the proton translocation in biological systems using quantum methods.
